West Ham are in talks with Barcelona’s Alex Song, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The Cameroonian midfielder has been linked with a return to Arsenal or a switch to Liverpool in recent days, but the Hammers are now firmly at the front of the queue for his signature.

Song is believed to have been deemed surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou, with Luis Enrique ready to let him leave for around £8m after a disastrous two years at the club.

The 26-year-old is rumoured to be holding out for a move to Liverpool, yet interest from the Reds has not been firmed up.

West Ham are confident that the chance to get his career back on track could allow them to sign the talented enforcer, with their London location also appealing to the player – as he used to play for city rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham are another side in the mix, although much of their remaining transfer business may hinge on the sales of fringe players.
