West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is considering a move for Arsenal’s Joel Campbell, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Hammers striker Andy Carroll is set to miss the opening months of the coming season with an ankle injury, and although Enner Valencia has been snapped up from Pachuca, the club are short on attacking options.

Released Chelsea man Samuel Eto’o is seen as a solution, but the Cameroonian wants wages of around £100,000-per-week, which may well be beyond the Londoners’ reach.

As a result Campbell has emerged as a target.

The pacey hit-man starred for Olympiakos last season and transferred his form to the World Cup, but his future at the Emirates Stadium is still unclear.

Arsene Wenger has hinted that he may be given a chance, but a loan move to gain experience of English football could be the best solution for both the player and the club.

The 22-year-old has been an Arsenal player since 2011 when he signed from home nation side Deportivo Saprissa, but he’s yet to play a competitive fixture in the red shirt due to work permit issues forcing him away on loan deals to France, Spain and Greece.

Another option for the Irons is long-term target Hugo Almeida, who is currently a free agent after being released by Besiktas.
