The Mirror.

Hammers chief Sam Allardyce is desperate to add to his options in the final third this January after enduring a tough opening to the season.

Andy Carroll’s injury woes have left ‘Big Sam’ without a focal point to his attack, and has been forced to sign to free agents in the shape of Mladen Petric and Carlton Cole – with the latter having been released by the club a matter of months ago.

Finnbogasson has emerged as one of Allardyce’s top targets following a fine start to the Eredivisie season.

The Icelandic international has already found the back of the net on 11 occasions this term, and is being hailed as one of Dutch football’s leading talents.

Despite the 24-year-old being one of Heerenveen’s star men, it is rumoured that he could be allowed to leave in January if an acceptable offer is lodged.

Newcastle – who are similarly short on attacking options – are also thought to be keen and have been linked with a move for the man who helped his nation book a shock play-off spot for the 2014 World Cup earlier this week.

West Ham fans, could Alfred Finnbogason and Andy Carroll be a fearsome attacking pair?
