West Ham are considering an ambitious double swoop for Benfica pair Oscar Cardozo and Rodrigo Lima, according to reports from talkSPORT.

Hammers chief Sam Allardyce is set to go about bolstering his frontline this summer, and sees the Lisbon double act as ideal additions to his squad.

The Benfica duo have played roles in the club’s journey to this season’s Europa League final and helped them to secure the Portuguese title in an impressive season.

This has alerted ‘Big Sam’, who is keen to provide Andy Carroll with adequate back up.

The burly Geordie has missed much of the current campaign with injury problems, which dented the Irons’ hopes and left them dangerously close to relegation for some of the season.

Cardozo is thought to be the top target, with the Paraguayan having long been thought of as one of the continent’s top marksmen.

The 30-year-old has netted a staggering 68 goals in 116 games for Benfica, but could be available in the coming months.

His Brazilian partner in crime Lima is also a target on the back of his 14 strikes in 29 appearances this term.

Allardyce is understood to have had scouts assessing both players as he prepares to allow Marco Borriello to return to Roma after a forgettable loan spell.
