West Ham’s Antonio Nocerino is hoping that he can use regular action at Upton Park between now and the end of the season to force his way into Italy’s World Cup squad.

The midfielder joined the Hammers on loan from AC Milan last month after falling down the pecking order at the San Siro.

Nocerino has been a regular in the Azzurri’s set-up over the course of the past few seasons, and represented them at the 2012 European Championships.

Sam Allardyce has not thrown him into his starting XI since sealing a temporary deal for the 28-year-old, but he has used him on four occasions as a substitute.

The experienced and combative central player says that he has aspirations of being a regular starter for the Irons, and that he is hopeful that he can impress enough to earn a re-call ahead of the World Cup.

“I hope this spell with help me get back into the Italian squad,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.

“One of the reasons I came to West Ham and to the Premier League is to play on a regular basis.

“My first objective is to play for West Ham and help the club move up the table.

“From that, if I am playing well and I get picked to go to the World Cup in Brazil, that will be an added bonus.”
