West Ham are plotting a move for Stoke’s Peter Crouch after pulling out of the race for Samuel Eto’o, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Hammers are set to move for a new forward after learning that Andy Carroll will miss the opening months of the campaign through injury, despite swooping for World Cup sensation Enner Valencia.

Eto’o was dubbed their top target following his release from Chelsea, but the Cameroonian free agent’s £120,000-per-week wage demands scuppered any potential deal.

Sam Allardyce remains desperate to get more firepower on board after the problems of last season, and Crouch has emerged as a target.

The 33-year-old former England international looks to be surplus to requirements at the Britannia Stadium following recent arrivals, which has alerted ‘Big Sam’.

The beanpole striker is seen as a good option, with his giant frame useful, while his technical abilities have also been praised in the past.

The former Liverpool, Tottenham and Portsmouth man is valued at around £1m by Stoke, and could be tempted by a return to London.

Signing Peter Crouch won’t solve our lack of goals… I know he’s a big lad and a target man for Valencia to feed off but he ain’t a 15/20 goals a season striker, he’s as much use as Carlton Cole (which is very little) and who know’s if Valencia can cut it in the Prem and atleast score in double figures?? I think we need a natural finisher like Remy for £8.5m or even a punt at Jordan Rhodes who is a proven goal scorer (maybe not in the prem) but definitely can score goals and is use to the English game unlike Valencia??
