West Ham are looking at a deal for Fenerbahce midfielder Raul Meireles, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a relatively successful spell in the Premier League with Liverpool and Chelsea before joining the Turkish side in 2012.

However his time in Istanbul has been less than fruitful, which has led to speculation of a return to England, alerting the Hammers.

Sam Allardyce’s side are set to talk through a potential deal with the combative midfielder in the coming days, as they plot to make additions in a bid to avoid relegation.

With Ravel Morrison and Mohamed Diame edging towards the Upton Park exit door, arrivals are thought to be a priority for the London club between now and the end of next week.

Meireles is seen as the ideal man to bolster their central ranks, with the Portuguese ace possessing a knowledge of the league and the technical ability to contribute on a regular basis.

A loan switch may be more desirable for the Irons, who might be unwilling to commit to a permanent deal and a lucrative contract for the player while their top-flight status for the coming years is still in question.
