West Ham to sign Latics defender
The 29 year-old’s move to the Hammers would cover manager Sam Allardyce’s side at left-back, after unsuccessfully trying to sign Blackburn Rovers’ Martin Olsson in the January window to boost the Hammers’ performance in the Premier League.
Reports suggest that the defender, whose contract expires in June, will not sign a new one with the Latics, being the second player in a year that makes a move from the DW Stadium to Upton Park after Mohamed Diame did the same last summer.
Should the move happen at the end of the season, the defender would also leave Wigan as a free agent, again following in the steps of former (and probably future) team-mate Diame.
Allardyce would find in the Honduran an experienced player who knows the Premier League inside out – he’s currently playing his fifth season with Roberto Martinez’s squad – and possesses an extensive trajectory as an international player, close to a hundred caps in a Honduran shirt.
Besides his defending duties, Figueroa can also add up offensive power to the Hammers thanks to his accurate left foot and ability at set plays.
