West Ham midfielder Matty Taylor insists the squad are eager to positively respond to their recent poor results.

Sam Allardyce has come under criticism lately, with the club 19th in the league and out of the FA Cup, after losing 5-0 at Championship side Nottingham Forest.

But Taylor has told the club’s official website that all the players are behind the manager, and determined to make some positive headlines.

“We had Sky Sports News on at the training ground on Monday and it seemed it was the ‘West Ham Hour’,” Taylor said.

“It seems at the moment that the press want to talk a lot about what is happening internally and externally with the football club but, as players, we can only concentrate on going out and giving our best when we’re given the opportunity to by the manager.

“In-house, everything is pretty buoyant at the moment. We’ve got a massive game coming up on Wednesday night. We’re all aware it was a disappointing result on Sunday in the FA Cup, but we need to pick ourselves up and try to get a good result at Manchester City.

“As players, when you go over the white line, you take responsibility instantly because the manager can’t influence that from the side of the pitch. We have got to accept responsibility for our own actions and we have done.”

New signing Roger Johnson could start for the Hammers, after completing his loan move to Upton Park.
