Celtic boss Neil Lennon has rejected reports that star striker Gary Hooper will be sold in January and that any formal interest is just speculation.
Hooper has continued his stunning form from last season, netting eight times already in this campaign, but Lennon is still confident of holding on to the 24-year-old for the long term future.
Liverpool have been the club linked with the former Scunthorpe striker recently and with their current attacking options limited, Lennon can see why they would be attracted to Hooper.
“It is speculation,” Lennon told the Metro.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if there are a number of clubs in for Gary because of the way he is but I would poo-poo that.”
Lennon was quick to add that he hoped to tie the striker down to a new contract along with ‘keeper Fraser Forster.
“We are still in negotiations at the minute and I don’t think we are too far away,” he added.
“There will be interest in them but they are not going anywhere.”
