As reported by The Scotsman, Kris Commons could be set for a Celtic exit this January with Neil Lennon's Hibs looking at him as an option to boost their bid for promotion from the Scottish Championship.

What's the word?

Kris Commons hasn't made a single appearance under Brendan Rodgers for the Hoops and the attacking midfielder could be given an escape route from Celtic Park with old boss Neil Lennon hoping he can attract him to Easter Road.

The Scotsman reckon Lennon's team are looking for a loan deal but that a compromise would have to be struck given that Hibs would not be able to afford the wages Commons is currently earning in Glasgow.

What's clear is that Commons is unlikely to have a Celtic future under Rodgers.

In October the Celtic manager, also quoted by The Scotsman, said: "I’ve brought in players who play in a slightly different way to how he’s played before. There’s no doubting his qualities and what he’s shown over two, three, four years. But it’s a different team playing in a different way."

Celtic reunion

Lennon was of the course the manager who signed Commons to Celtic initially and the midfielder enjoyed the best form of his career under the former Celtic boss.

The 2013/14 season in particular was a high point for Commons and Celtic. From midfield he banged in 32 goals from 48 appearances, an exceptional return.

If Lennon can tap into that kind of form with Commons at Hibs, then their promotion hopes would indeed look a lot rosier.

It would be a sad farewell for Celtic fans who have grown fond of Commons over the last few years. Many were hoping he would become the first player since John Hartson to score 100 goals for the club. He's just 9 short but it's unlikely he'll ever get a chance to reach the milestone.

After 227 games for the club it looks like his time is up at Celtic Park.
