Celtic did not have time to replace the departing Moussa Dembele on deadline day, but they can forget all about the Frenchman by signing Swiss international Breel Embolo.

What's the story?

Celtic fans were furious when Dembele left on deadline day, as the 22 year-old scored 26 times in 55 Premiership appearances for the Hoops.

There is a feeling amongst some fans that they already have his replacement in the impressive Odsonne Edouard, but the 20 year-old cannot be expected to immediately step into Dembele’s shoes.

This is why they should pursue Embolo in January, who together with Edouard would give Brendan Rodgers two rapid young strikers with limitless potential.

Would he be a good signing?

Embolo is only 21, but the versatile youngster has already earned 29 Switzerland caps, four of which came at this year’s World Cup. Tipped to become one of the best players in Europe before a horrific ankle injury in 2016, the £16.2m-rated star has fallen out of favour at Schalke, and could be looking for a fresh start.

While he can also play on either wing, he is best as a central striker, where he can use his devastating mixture of pace, strength, and dribbling ability to terrify defenders.

He scored 31 times and added 22 assists in 90 appearances for Basel before making the move to Germany, where he has managed just six goals and six assists in 36 games.

A fresh start could be just what the doctor ordered to rediscover his goalscoring touch, and a partnership with Edouard with bring a staggering amount of skill, smarts, and power to the Celtic attack.

Celtic may not be in a rush to replace Dembele if Edouard keeps up his impressive form, but they should definitely look at Embolo, as the pair could form one of the most promising partnerships in Europe.
