The Spanish midfielder has won a plethora of trophies at the top level, and his final farewell will be spent at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Prior to his switch to Bayern, Alonso had a successful five-year spell at Real Madrid, winning the Champions League and La Liga title.

The midfielder caught the attention of the football world when he signed for Rafael Benitez's Liverpool from Real Sociedad in 2004.

He quickly became a fan favourite and went on to play a pivotal role in the Reds' epic comeback victory in the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan in Istanbul.

Alonso remains adored on Merseyside, and plenty of Liverpool fans, as well as others from the football world, have paid tribute to the midfielder ahead of his impending retirement.
