Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney rejected speculation that he is on his way out of Old Trafford, but some fans are not convinced.

It was widely reported in the British media that the 31-year-old was considering a big-money move to the Chinese Super League before next Tuesday's transfer deadline.

However, the man himself has publicly stated that he wants to remain at the club, indicating that he is not ready to call time on his 13-year spell just yet.

His statement read:

“Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I’m grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United," declared the Reds' record goalscorer.

“I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in its fight for success on four fronts. It’s an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it.”

Despite his claims, some fans still speculate that he will leave at the end of the season after dropping down the pecking order under manager Jose Mourinho.

Rooney has made 28 appearances in all competitions this season, but only eight of those outings have been Premier League starts.

Recently he became United's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 249, but it does not look like he will be forcing his way into the first XI any time soon.

Plenty of supporters were happy with Rooney's commitment, but others are sceptical.
