As reported by the BBC, the man Rangers wanted to take up their newly created Director of Football position has turned down the chance to move from Southampton.

Ross Wilson is currently at the Saints heading up their scouting programme and has decided to stay in that role rather than lead the Ibrox side's entire playing set-up.

It's a bit of a blow to the club and their supporters who were hoping for a fairly quick resolution to the leadership problems at Ibrox in the wake of Mark Warburton's departure last month.

With first team coach target Pedro Caixinha also reportedly no closer to signing up with the Gers, the inexperienced U20s coach Graeme Murty continues to prepare the team for one of their toughest tests of the season at Celtic Park this Sunday.

With key goals still left to achieve in the season, like finishing second in the Scottish Premiership and winning the Scottish Cup, it's important that the decision makers at Ibrox identify someone capable and willing to take on the responsibilities required to achieve those ambitions bring the club into a new era.
