Oakwell | Built in 1888

The Oakwell Stadium is an all seater 23,000 capacity ground. The red football shirts of Barnsley supporters are spread out across three of the four main stands.

The West Stand offers the only original aspect of Oakwell while the other three stands have been more recently upgraded throughout the 1990’s, coinciding with the club's one season in the Premier League in 1997/98.

The North Stand houses away supporters and allocation usually totals around 2,000 (but with exceptions can rise to 6,000). The North Stand is a fully covered, single tiered stand and is also the most recently upgraded part of the ground.

Oakwell also boasts a purpose built disabled stand situated at the corner between East and South stands.

Where to drink

It is not generally advised to wear away colours around the town centre, however that is not to say that Barnsley is known for match day problems.

Local drinking haunts that reportedly accommodate away fans include, The Coach and Horses (Doncaster Road) and The Holleywell Inn (Oakwell Road)

Where to eat

The Metro Dome complex offers relatively cheap food, booze and football on TV.
