Set to host the final of Euro 2012 as well as Ukraine's opening match of the competition, the Olympic Stadium is located in the centre of the capital, Kiev.
An athletics stadium encircles the pitch and 68,000 football fans will be there to watch the Euro 2012 final on Sunday 1st July.

City History
Kiev or Kyiv is one of Europe’s oldest cities in technically one of Europe’s youngest countries, after gaining independence from Moscow in 1991. Ukraine’s independence is marked by the beautiful Independence Square, this known as the birthplace of the Ukrainian independence movement. A large scale hunger strike from Ukrainian nationals in 1989 began the movement in the square which led to the demise of the Communist Party in Ukraine. Kiev is renowned for its abundance of cultural and historical heritage including various theatres, Opera houses and gardens surrounding the banks of the picturesque Dnieper River. Kiev is also known for its glittering golden skyline defined by the golden domes and steeples of numerous churches and monasteries, most notably the Kiev Pecherska Lavra, St. Sophia Cathedral which has no less than 13 golden domes.
On a sporting note, Kiev’s most successful football team are FC Dynamo Kyiv, founded in 1927 the clubs entire history has been spent in the top league of Soviet football where they often dominated championships and cup tournaments, their Soviet trophy cabinet includes; Soviet Top League (13), Soviet Cup (9), USSR Super Cup (3).
Ukrainian independence brought about the formation of the Ukrainian Premier League where Dynamo currently plays and the Kiev based club hold an equally impressive record. Dynamo Kiev are Ukraine’s most successful football club, their trophy cabinet boasts; Ukrainian Premier League (13), Ukrainian Cup (9), Ukrainian Super Cup (5), UEFA Cup Winners Cup (2), UEFA Super Cup (1).
Dynamo Kiev has produced some of Ukraine’s greatest individuals too, current national team manager Oleg Blokhin won the European Footballer of the Year (Ballon d’Or) award in 1975, Igor Belanov also won this award in 1986 and perhaps most famously Andriy Shevchenko who was including in the official FIFA 100 and has represented European giants including AC Milan and Chelsea.
