Neil Warnock’s Leeds side would have licked their lips at this delicious third round tie against Premier League opposition, but no matter how much preparation the staff and players put in, the fans who arrived at Elland Road that evening were wonderfully noisy, creating a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium.
Everton looked shaky in the opening moments, and the fans’ efforts to intimidate their opponents paid off when Aidan White fired Leeds into the lead in the 4th minute.
The Leeds fans maintained the noise and Everton just couldn’t seem to focus. The Whites capitalised again in the second-half, doubling their lead in the 70th minute with a Rodolph Austin strike.
Everton only mustered a goal in the 89th minute, and it was too little too late. The Leeds fans played their part in a historic victory over Premier League opposition.
