It's the battle of the claret and blues at Turf Moor on Tuesday night as Championship high-flyers Burnley host Premier League West Ham in Round 4 of the Capital One Cup.

Both sides are enjoying contrasting seasons in their respective divisions. Burnley are topping the Championship and look like early contenders for automatic promotion under Sean Dyche, with an unbeaten home record in all competitions this term and an average of two goals-per-game during that period.

Sam Allardyce's West Ham, however, have been somewhat inconsistent in their second season back in the big-time, struggling to score goals without club-record signing Andy Carroll but also keeping five clean sheets from their opening 11 games in all competitions.

And it's their fantastic defensive record that has kept the Hammers from suffering a nightmare start to the campaign, which looked a real threat early on without Allardyce signing a suitable back-up striker for the crocked Carroll. But Burnley will go in to this game brimming with confidence after their 2-0 home victory over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday and Dyche's side can boast an even better defensive record than their visitors, with nine shut-outs from their 16 matches so far this season.

To add to their attacking woe, West Ham's fans will not take comfort in their cup record under Allardyce. They were eliminated Round 1 of the Capital One Cup by Aldershot in his first season in charge and then crashed out to Wigan Athletic in Round 3 last season.

Burnley will like the look of that, though, and they'll take more confidence from the stats surrounding this fixture. Despite never beating the Hammers in a cup competition, they've only lost four of their 37 home league fixtures with them and they've also won their last four cup meetings with teams in a higher division.

After Swansea and Bradford's successful Capital One Cup campaigns last term, Burnley will be looking at this season as big opportunity to mirror their promotion bid with a trip to Wembley, and Dyche will be expected to field a relatively full-strength side.

Allardyce will have to make do without Ricardo Vaz Te, who dislocated a shoulder in Sunday's draw with Swansea, which means Carlton Cole could be handing his second full-debut for the Hammers since re-signing earlier this month.
