Every season, without fail, a new batch of youngsters are unleashed onto the League Cup stage to offer supporters a quick glimpse of their much fabled talents. And while some may fall by the wayside and plunge into the dark depths of football obscurity, there are usually a clutch of players that successfully utilise the competition to hone their craft and eventually fulfil their promise expected of them on a grander stage. Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique and Giussepe Rossi, to name but a few, all began their careers in the League Cup many moons ago. Hope springs eternal for the class of 2012.
