Whether you’re a young starlet making your club debut, a teenage reserve taking an opportunity to impress the boss, or a recent arrival still settling into your new environment, the Capital One Cup often provides opportunities for some of the not-so-usual suspects in English football to get on the scoresheet.

This year’s competition has been a happy hunting-ground for young defenders in particular – no fewer than four of the players on this list are defenders who have notched their first career goals in the 2012-13 Capital One Cup.

    Any goal that Chamakh scores is a rarity so he more than deserves a place on this list.
