Football audiences are always likely to get carried away, and it’s nothing really unusual. But plenty of talk from a certain angle helps to create an image of a player that doesn’t really fit. Whether it Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, Manchester United’s new signing Wilfried Zaha or Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the sheer hyperbole that surrounds certain players beggars belief.
England will continue to speak highly of the Premier League, however it starts to become embarrassing when names in this country are spoken of in higher terms than established greats on the continent. In addition, we’re never far from the flavour of the month in the top flight of English football. It’s all part of the show, I suppose.
