Putting one of the country’s most natural goalscorers on this list may seem like something of a foolhardy choice, but the truth is that Jermain Defoe has been a real surprise package for Spurs this season. Primarily because towards the end of July, the school of thought was that the ex-Portsmouth man simply wouldn’t be at the club.
Indeed, Defoe has proved the critics wrong to stay and fight for his place at White Hart Lane, learning to lead the line on his own and keeping Emmanuel Adebayor on the bench in the process. He looks like a man reborn under Andre Villas-Boas and where as once his place at the club looked in real jeopardy, he is now the club’s first choice striker once more. A great turnaround for a superb striker.
