While his move to Norwich City was generally heralded as a positive one, nobody seemed entirely sure about what to expect out of Sebastien Bassong following his departure from Tottenham Hotspur during the summer.
Despite being an undoubtedly talented defender, a term last season that saw him make only 18 starts in all competitions – with half of those coming during an unimpressive loan spell at relegated Wolves last term – his Premier League future seemed somewhat uncertain.
Fast forward half a season and a £4million move to Chris Hughton’s side later and Bassong has looked to be one of the bargain defensive buys of the season. Despite the Canaries’ wobbles of late, Bassong has been strong and assured at the heart of their defense so far this season, playing a prominent role in seeing them go from relegation candidates to sure bets to beat the drop.
