Everton have made great progress under Ronald Koeman and their chances of playing in Europe next season were significantly boosted by Manchester United's EFL Cup victory yesterday, which meant Southampton missed the chance to seal their spot in the Europa League.

Sat four points behind the Red Devils in the Premier League, with Jose Mourinho's side also having a game in hand, seventh-spot is the best Everton can hope for this season and the Toffees look on course to seal that position- which would be a significant improvement on the last two campaigns, where the Merseyside outfit have sat outside of the top-half.

Ronald Koeman is sure to bolster his squad this summer though and one big arrival through the door at Goodison Park could be Burnley defender Michael Keane, with The Sun stating the Toffees are confident of a £28m deal.

With Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams not getting any younger, the move certainly makes sense and the statistics suggest Keane would be a solid addition to Everton's back-line.

In 26 appearances this season, Keane has excelled defensively by winning 90 aerial duels and making 51 interceptions- which is higher than Phil Jagielka (51 & 20), Ashley Williams (47 & 43) and Ramiro Funes Mori (36 & 30).

His tackles won may be lower than Jagielka (18) and Williams (27) but Keane would add depth to this area of Everton's squad, particularly as Jagielka turns 35 this summer and is widely expected to move on.
