Italian giants AC Milan are set to revive their interest in Cesc Fabregas this summer as they believe he's the ideal recruit to bolster their midfield, Italian outlet CalcioMercato reports.

What's the word?

Cesc Fabregas has rediscovered his form in the Premier League this season, netting the opening goal in Chelsea's 3-1 victory over Swansea City this weekend, but the Spaniard has struggled to consistently earn a starting spot at Stamford Bridge.

The tenure of Antonio Conte has led to an incredible boost in form for the Blues, who are storming their way towards the Premier League title, but that has come at a cost for Fabregas- who has started just six Premier League games this season.

With the possibility of further midfield additions this summer adding more competition for places for Fabregas, AC Milan are reviving their interest in the Spaniard and will make a swoop this summer.

Should he leave?

Fabregas, now 29, is content to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea, having made his 300th Premier League appearance at the weekend, but the World Cup in 2018 could play a part in the Spaniard's decision on his future.

Spain boss Julen Lopetegui has overlooked Fabregas for a spot in his national squad ever since he took the reigns following Vicente Del Bosque's retirement last summer and Fabregas faces a huge battle to force his way back into contention- having seen Sergio Busquets, Thiago, Koke, Juan Mata, Isco, Ander Herrera, Jose Callejon and David Silva selected ahead of him for the last international ties in November.

On top of that, Fabregas also has the likes of Andres Iniesta, Marco Asensio, Saul Niguez and Santi Cazorla to compete with in what could end-up being Fabregas' last chance at an international tournament. Having been a bit-part member of the squads that won Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.

With regular football and impressive performances, Fabregas could be a key-player in Spain's World Cup next summer and staying at Chelsea could cost him that opportunity.
