AC Milan are planning to save Moussa Sissoko from his Tottenham Hotspur nightmare with a swoop for the winger this summer, Italian outlet Calcio Mercato reports.

What's the word?

After winning the race for his services during the summer, after he surprisingly emerged as one of the most impressive players in France's run to the Euro 2016 final, Moussa Sissoko has struggled to make a positive impact following his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Signed for a fee of around £30m, the 27-year-old has made just nine starts across all competitions for the Lilywhites and has seen the majority of his opportunities come off the bench. Mauricio Pochettino will certainly not be happy with the wide-man's contribution, as Sissoko has just two assists to his name from 23 appearances.

As such, the Lilywhites could cash-in this summer and AC Milan are emerging as potential suitors.

Why Milan?

AC Milan were one of the clubs interested in Sissoko's services during the summer, before being pipped to his signature by Spurs, and the player's decline in performances means the other Premier League clubs previously interested in his services, like Everton, are likely to have ended their interest.

Serie A giants Milan will revive their interest this summer though as they seek capable, international footballers to help the San Siro outfit compete with Juventus once again and return to the Champions League following a two-season absence.

Currently sat seventh in the Serie A standings, ten points behind third-placed Lazio, it seems the Rossoneri will endure another year of absence from the Champions League and face a battle to even qualify for the Europa League- a competition Milan have not featured in since it's rebranding from the UEFA Cup.
