Gerard Deulofeu intends to return to Everton and fight for his place when his loan deal expires at AC Milan, according to SportMediaset.

What's the story?

A lack of game time under manager Ronald Koeman resulted in Deulofeu moving to Milan on a short-term loan deal.

Since moving to the San Siro, the Spaniard has impressed in seven Serie A appearances, providing two assists and one goal.

Last month, talkSPORT reported that Barcelona were considering triggering their buy-back option for Deulofeu in the summer.

However, SportsMediaset claim that the man himself wants to return to Goodison Park for the start of next season.

Should Deulofeu go back to Merseyside?

In the first half of the season, the 22-year-old started just four Premier League games and came off the bench in seven others.

At that point, his future at Goodison Park looked bleak, but since finding an upturn in form over in Italy, perhaps returning to Merseyside is not such a bad idea.

Deulofeu has been shipped from pillar to post in his career so far, having loan spells with the Toffees and Sevilla before permanently leaving Barcelona in 2015.

For his sake, it would be best to have more security and develop his game at one club.

Even though he was not favoured by Koeman, Deulofeu could make a statement by challenging his teammates for a position in the first team.

The Spaniard has shown quality before at Everton, so it might be best for both parties not to cut ties just yet.
