Everton recently had an £8m bid for Werder Bremen midfielder rejected by the German club, but manager Ronald Koeman may revisit the deal in the summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

What's the story?

The Merseyside outfit is believed to have been tracking the 25-year-old since the end of last season.

The Liverpool Echo claims that the club gave up their pursuit of Delaney, who went on to agree a deal with Werder Bremen.

The publication claims that Everton tried again when the transfer window reopened at the start of the month, but Bremen knocked them back straight away.

The midfielder spent the first half of the season playing for Copenhagen before joining up with the German outfit and making his debut last weekend.

Even if Everton managed to convince Bremen to sell, they would not be permitted to sign Delaney as players are not allowed to represent more than two clubs in one season.

Should Everton go back for him in the summer?

Koeman is clearly a fan of the Denmark international as he has now made approaches in two transfer windows.

Delaney generally plays in the middle of the park, but he can also operate on the left side or as a defensive midfielder.

While Copenhagen do not play in the most competitive of leagues, he has experience playing top-level football having made six appearances in the Champions League for the Danish club this season, scoring one goal.

In the Superliga before joining up with Bremen this month, he found the back of the net six times in 19 outings, 18 of which he was named in the starting lineup.

Missing out on Delaney this time around is not a huge disappointment for Everton as they have already bolstered their midfield with Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Frenchman will be desperate to make his mark at Goodison after being left out in the cold by Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
