As reported in an exclusive by The Sun, Southampton are showing interest in signing England international Joe Hart this summer as a potential replacement for Fraser Forster.

What's the story?

Both Forster and Hart currently compete for the England jersey but their futures could be set to be linked at club level too with Southampton planning ahead for all eventualities.

The Sun reckon that Saints are nervous about losing Fraser Forster to another Premier League team this summer, a move that would be a bitter blow to their defensive set-up. However, to combat that they're plotting a move for Joe Hart after his loan expires at Torino at the end of the season.

They could face a battle to land their man though with the Italian club very eager to sign him permanently, according to the report.

Hart vs Forster

In terms of international appearances, Joe Hart has certainly been favoured by England managers over the years when it comes to deciding who is the better choice between the sticks. Hart has 68 caps for his country compared to Fraser Forster's total of just 6.

However, Forster does have plenty of admirers and there are some who feel he would be a better choice between the sticks for the Three Lions.

If the big 'keeper does leave Saints sometime soon then Hart would be an excellent replacement. Although lacking the physical presence of Forster he possesses second to none shot stopping ability and would be motived to prove himself again in the Premier League after an acrimonious 18 months with parent club Manchester City.
