As reported by Spanish outlet Marca, Arsenal are interested in the signature of midfielder Pablo Fornals from La Liga side Malaga.

What's the story?

After another season that has gone slightly off the rails, Arsenal will be looking to strengthen their squad further this summer with the central midfield area expected to be a priority.

One concern is the future of Santi Cazorla who has been ruled out until the end of the season with another injury, the second long-term absence in as many seasons. At the age of 32 Arsene Wenger likely needs to find a long-term replacement for the midfield star.

To that end, they've targeted Malaga midfielder Fornals say Marca, and could land him for a cheap as £8.5m due to a termination clause in his contract.

The report says that Arsenal scouts have been very impressed with the 21 year old's displays this season and that could cause them to make a move this summer.

Malaga was of course the club they signed Cazorla from initially in 2012.

The answer?

Moving to Malaga at the age of 16, Fornals has made steady progress through the ranks at Spanish club, making over 40 appearances for their 'B' team before his graduation into the first team set-up. He became a regular last season and has shown excellent potential with great technical ability, a determined defensive attitude and an attacking instinct too.

His form was good last season that he won his first Spain call-up and cap last May, a sign that he has the potential to be an elite player at one of Europe's big clubs.

At just 21 he has the time required to develop into a fantastic Arsenal player should they make their move for him and could very well end up being the perfect replacement for Cazorla.
