Frank Lampard remains open to offers but has rejected a move to Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion, according to the Daily Star.

What's the story?

Lampard made it clear when he left MLS club New York City that he has not yet hung up his boots and is willing to join another club to prolong his playing career.

So far, the former Chelsea man has been quiet about where he wants to play, but the Daily Star reports that he was offered a deal by Chris Hughton’s Brighton side.

The publication states the midfielder felt that he would not get much game time because Hughton would not want to disrupt a side that are leading the way at the top of the Championship with a two-point advantage.

The Star added that Premier League sides Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace also expressed an interest in signing him.

It is understood that Lampard is in no rush to commit to a club because his status as a free agent means that he can make a move outside of the transfer window.

Should Lampard just give up and retire?

At the age of 38, time is ticking on the midfielder’s playing career and the longer it takes for him to sign up, the harder it will be for him to get up to match fitness.

Presumably, Lampard has been keeping fit in the gym, but it will take time for him to move into a team that have already played half a season.

That is not to say that the former England international would not be able to make an impact, but if he is looking for regular football, he is unlikely going to find it at the top level.

With the career that Lampard has had (winning 11 major trophies at Chelsea), it would not be fitting for him to end his playing days dwindling on the bench or filtering down the leagues.
