Newcastle United have joined a handful of Premier League clubs in the chase for injured Nice star Wylan Cyprien, according to the Sunday People.

What's the word?

The 22-year-old is believed to have attracted a number of admirers due to his performances in midfield this season.

The Sunday People that Rafael Benitez is monitoring the France Under-21 international ahead of a potential summer swoop from Newcastle.

However, it appears that the Spaniard faces competition due to Arsenal’s alleged interest in the young midfielder.

Not only that, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Southampton have also been linked with Cyprien, who joined Nice from Lens last year after making the step up from the youth ranks.

What is all the fuss about?

It is understandable why Cyprien has caught the eye given that at the age of 22 he has become a regular in the Nice team since his transfer.

The midfielder has started 27 Ligue 1 matches and came off the bench in two of them, and in that time has netted eight goals and registered three assists.

He has also scored once in four appearances in this season’s Europa League, proving that the elite stage does not phase him.

Cyprien may not be the best tackler of the game, but his long-range passing is on point and he likes to take shots from distance.

Having a creative attacking talent in the ranks would be a big plus for Newcastle if they return to the Premier League next season.

However, it could also be a risk due to Cyprien’s current state. The midfielder is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage last Friday.

Of course, players recover from those type of injuries all the time, but suffering the blow during a positive run of form is always slightly concerning.
