Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney could still leave the club this month as a number of sides from China eye his services, The Telegraph reports.

What's the word?

After recently cementing himself in Manchester United history by becoming the club's all-time leading scorer, Wayne Rooney's future at Old Trafford seems to be drawing to a close and an exit may even happen this month.

The veteran striker is a top-target for Chinese clubs in the closing weeks of the transfer window, with several sides optimistic of securing a deal for the England skipper before the window slams shut on the 28th February.

Rooney has not started a Premier League match since early December but United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to keep the long-serving forward until the end of the season, as the Red Devils continue to fight on four fronts.

Will he leave?

Whilst Mourinho is confident of keeping Rooney until the summer, the England skipper could have his head turned by interest from the Far East. An exit from Manchester United is surely inevitable, with the only question mark being as to when he would leave.

However, the World Cup in 2018 will surely be on Rooney's mind as he's keen to play at an international tournament one last time before hanging up his boots and a move to the Far East could affect his selection chances with Gareth Southgate's side.

With 18 months left on a deal, it's unlikely that Rooney will see out the duration of his contract in the North West but it's equally unlikely that England's record scorer will leave before the close of the current campaign.
