Football FanCast columnist Luke Raine looks back at Middlesbrough's season and feels that there has been a great deal of positives to be taken from it.

Middlesbrough's game against Manchester City on Sunday may well feature last on Match of The Day, but that doesn't mean it isn't important for the players to give the home fans the send off they perhaps deserve after a season that has flirted with the idea of being successful but often flattered to deceive.

Football FanCast columnist Luke Raine looks at today's PFA nominations and is bemused to know how the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernando Torres feature in the young player of the year category.

After the publication of the nominations for the PFA Young Player of The Year award, there are a few issues, which come to mind. These issues mainly centre around the fact that I believe younger players from less fashionable clubs should be getting national recognition for their performances over the past season.

Football FanCast columnist and Boro fan Luke Raine is delighted at their performances of late and feels a lot of credit must go down to Gareth Southgate who is slowing maturing into a quality England manager.

Now the dust has settled on Sunday's Premier League game at the Riverside, I feel it is appropriate to analyse just why Middlesbrough had so much success against Manchester United at The Riverside. Many fans and pundits will point to the fact that Nemanja Vidic was missing from the side, but I feel that Boro deserve more credit for their performance.

Football FanCast columnist Luke Raine commiserates over Middlesbrough's FA Cup quarter final exit at the weekend, and wonders just how long it will take Gareth Southgate's men to repay the ‘Boro faithful after missing out on a trip to Wembley, and the possibility of FA Cup glory.

It may now be over 48 hours since Middlesbrough crashed out of the F.A Cup at the hands of Cardiff City, but I am still just as angry. All the optimism which had come out of Saturday's results disappeared in front of Boro fans eyes in the space of 90 dreadful minutes. There are a number of words which could be used to describe the team's performance on Sunday, but not many which could be used in this article.

FFC columnist Luke Raine is delighted that David Wheater has signed a new contract at the Riverside and feels the young centre half, who has attracted a lot of Premier League interest, has the potential to go on to achieve great things for club and country.

The news that young Middlesbrough centre back David Wheater has ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract with the club should be well received by Boro fans. The Redcar born 21 year old, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the current season, has signed until 2012.

FFC columnist and Middlesbrough fan Luke Raine is certainly not taking tonight's replay against Sheffield United for granted.

Tonight's F.A Cup fifth round replay at the Riverside Stadium is a great opportunity for Boro to secure their place in the quarter finals of the cup. However after a goalless draw at Bramall lane ten days ago, it certainly won't be an easy tie for the home side. In truth, United probably shaded the first game between the sides, but it will be a different proposition tonight at The Riverside.
