Saints PodJockey Sam Poulton reflects on the current plight of Southampton Football Club and wonders what has happened to the Saints spirit that for so long dominated the red and white army.
Let's not lie about the situation, it is bad, very bad but is it as bad as we think it is? Ok, in seasons gone by we haven't always been in the top division of course, although we did have 27 consecutive years in the top flight not that long ago.
Despite a second-half fight back on Tuesday night, Southampton are in serious danger of being relegated to the 3rd tier of English football. Southampton PodJockey Sam Poulton voices his concerns on the future of Southampton FC, and asks whether the Saints fortunes will ever turn upwards again. I do believe that this is a dark point in the history of Southampton Football Club. I cannot see at the present time when this club is going to turn around and start to threaten for promotion again. Unfortunately we will never be a realistic threat until investment from outside of the club becomes a reality. Although there are credible discussions with the board at the present time about investment from a certain source, I cannot see it materializing and I believe that Crouch and the other directors are fooling themselves into thinking that the investment will be obtained in the original 3-6 months period first stated by the board.
Southampton PodJockey Sam Poulton has taken Andrew Surman's recent comments about staying at his local club with a pinch of salt, especially if the Saints were to continue to struggle.
It was great to hear today that Andrew Surman has came out and stated to us the fans, the people he is responsible too that he wants to be a part of Southampton for the foreseeable future. I for one was convinced of the sale through financial and football reasons as well.
