Wigan manager Roberto Martinez believes that Angelo Henriquez has the potential to become a crowd favourite at the DW Stadium.
He came close to marking his first appearance for the club with a goal, but saw his header come back off of the woodwork.
At just 18-years-of-age, Henriquez has plenty of time to develop and Martinez believes that he will prove to be a hit during his spell with Wigan:
“There is such a freshness about his play,” he is quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Angelo’s movement was outstanding and his knack of getting a couple of yards in the box gave him a very good chance, which nearly brought him his first Wigan goal.
“I have a feeling he is going to be a real crowd favourite.”
With first-choice centre-forward Arouna Kone having left the club to join up with the Ivory Coast squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations Henriquez may see some Premier League action in the coming weeks.
Martinez feels that the loanee offers his team another dimension:
“Angelo tries to be very clever,
“Because he is not the most physical, he avoids 50-50 contact with defenders. But his running into space is really sharp and incisive.
“We do need to get to know him a little bit better. Sometimes he made some great moves and we couldn’t see him.
“But he will give us a completely different dimension.”
