Despite being quoted a £30million fee, it doesn’t seem as though Liverpool are finished in their pursuit of Adam Lallana just yet. Brendan Rodgers remains keen on re-uniting the 26 year old with Rickie Lambert at Anfield for the coming season.
Although the majority of Liverpool fans would welcome Lallana with open arms, there are real concerns that the Merseysiders’ are going to pay over the odds for the midfielder that racked up nine goals and six assists in the Premier League this season. With the premium placed on British players, there is the feeling that there are more affordable alternatives on the market.
Unless Liverpool can negotiate Southampton down from their current valuation, they would be wise to consider their options. And where better to look for alternatives than the World Cup, a tournament which has so far been characterised by brilliant attacking play.
Bearing this in mind, here are SIX alternatives to Adam Lallana that Liverpool should monitor in Brazil.
According to the latest reports emanating from Spain, Sanchez is believed to be pushing for an exit from Barcelona this summer. The 25 year old was reduced to 27 starting appearances in La Liga last season, although he still managed a hugely impressive 19 goals and 10 assists.
Probably too similar in style to Messi or Neymar to achieve his full potential at the Nou Camp, the signing of Sanchez would be a remarkable coup for Liverpool. Although his value is rising with each impressive performance for Chile, Rodgers has the funds at his disposal to land one major signing this summer. Although competition for the 25 year old’s signature is expected to be fierce, the Merseysiders’ should do all they can to convince Sanchez that his potential would be best realised at Anfield.
Another victim of competition for places, Shaqiri has intimated that he may be looking to leave Bayern Munich this summer. The 22 year old only stared 10 times in the Bundesliga this season, although he did still manage to score an impressive six times.
If the rumours are to be believed, the Reds have already opened talks with the German giants over a possible move for the Swiss star. Prior to the World Cup, Shaqiri stated a preference for a move to the Premier League and the 22 year old would certainly provide a more affordable option than Lallana.
However, Liverpool fans remain divided over who would be the better signing this summer.
Really hope we get shaqiri and that the lallana deal is dead shaqiri is younger and has better prospects and to be honest the better player

I’ve not been too impressed with Shaqiri in this World Cup. I’m starting to think Lallana is the better option out of the two. — JFT96 (@PeteKopite) June 21, 2014
Although Croatia suffered a disappointing exit from Group A, Perisic still managed to shine in Brazil. The winger managed to net twice and was arguably his country’s most impressive performer this summer.
The 25 year racked up 10 goals and 4 assists for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga this season.
Although Perisic’s performances at the World Cup have inevitably increased his price, the winger would still represent a far more affordable option than Lallana. With Everton reportedly keen, Liverpool would have to trump their Merseyside rivals in order to secure the Croatian’s signature.
With the Carlos Vela deal, the Emirates Stadium seems a more likely destination for Griezmann this summer. The Frenchman racked up a hugely impressive 16 strikes in La Liga for Real Sociedad this season.
At the age of 23 and for a reported £18 million, any potential move for Griezmann would surely be welcomed by the Liverpool fans. With a better goalscoring record than Lallana, the Frenchman would add to the Reds’ potent attacking options. However, with Arsenal’s links to Sociedad, it may prove difficult for Rodgers to snatch Griezmann away from the Gunners’ clutches.
Currently at the World Cup with Algeria, Feghouli has already made an impact in the tournament. The 24 year old won and dispatched a penalty in the opening group game to hand his country a shock lead over Belgium.
The Algerian has long been associated with a transfer to Anfield and with a reported £9 million price tag, this could be the summer where the 24 year old finally makes the move. With 4 goals and 8 assists for Valencia in La Liga this season, Feghouli has made vast strides in his attacking output this season. However, there a sense that Liverpool would be sacrificing quality if they moved for the Algerian ahead of Lallana.
Virtually unknown to many on these shores prior to the World Cup, Candreva introduced himself to English football fans by tormenting Leighton Baines in their opening Group D fixture. The Azzurri winger was one of his country’s best performers in the Confederations Cup and is seemingly replicating this level of form once again.
The 27 year old netted 12 times in Serie A this season, including this long range effort against rivals Roma.
Having recently secured outright ownership of the player, Lazio aren’t in any mood to sell Candreva on the cheap. However, for a mooted fee of £20 million, the 27 year old is still far more affordable than Lallana. In comparison to the Southampton midfielder, the Italian does represent a more traditional wide option and it remains to be seen whether this is an alternative Rodgers would seriously consider.
