Arsenal: Charles Watts claims Trossard will be on bench for United clash

Journalist Charles Watts expects new Arsenal signing Leandro Trossard to be on the bench for the Gunners this weekend.

What’s the word?

The Belgian joined Arsenal on Friday in a fast-paced deal and was registered in time to join the squad for their latest Premier League clash.

A win would be a huge statement for Mikel Arteta’s side in the title race, and they will now have extra firepower available following the 28-year-old’s arrival.

Would Trossard be a good signing for Arsenal?

No way!

No way!

And speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts claimed that Trossard should be on the bench for a possible debut in front of the Emirates Stadium crowd.

He said: “Trossard, I fully expect to be on the bench. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him in the second half at some point to make his debut.

“Other than that, it’s just going to be the same team, but the fact that you’ve got Trossard out on the bench is just immediately going to make Arsenal look stronger – especially when you’ve got Smith Rowe on there as well.

“There are players who can change the game and can come on; you’ve obviously got Fabio Vieira as well. So suddenly, your attacking options on the bench, just with the addition of Trossard and the return of Smith Rowe from injury just makes Arsenal look an awful lot stronger going forward, and that’s a big, big boost for Mikel Arteta.”

In Arsenal’s recent 0-0 draw with Newcastle, they were frustrated by the opposition, but Arteta opted against making a single attacking substitution because of the lack of experienced options.

Arsenal are top at Christmas but when was the last time they won the league title from this position?

Trossard and Smith Rowe can now come on as substitutes to swing the game in Arsenal’s favour and grab a goal if necessary, and they can also provide strong rotation options for the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

When injured stars Gabriel Jesus and Reiss Nelson return, Arsenal’s full roster of attacking options will look very strong, and they will hope to have enough firepower within their ranks to push on and secure an unexpected Premier League title.
