Arsenal's convincing 4-0 win over relegation-threatened Everton on Wednesday evening proved a night of mixed fortunes for the Gunners' two January arrivals, with Leandro Trossard and Jorginho having made differing impacts against the Toffees.

In the case of the latter man, despite having been "superb" in recent games - in the words of former Highbury hero Kevin Campbell (talkSPORT, 20/02/2023, 08:11) - the Italy international was hooked at half-time last night, with manager Mikel Arteta admitting that the 31-year-old "was not feeling good" during that underwhelming first-half display.

The former Chelsea maestro - who arrived on a £12m deal from the Blues last month - notably won just two of his six duels in that 45-minute outing and failed to provide a single key pass, while also losing possession on nine occasions as a marker of his struggles.

That rather limp showing saw the Brazil-born playmaker record just a 6.7 match rating for his troubles, as per Sofascore, with that unsurprisingly the lowest of any starting player for the north London outfit.

By contrast, however, the aforementioned Trossard - whose tally of 38 touches was actually fewer than that of his fellow new addition (47) - was far more influential in that thumping win at the Emirates, with the 28-year-old illustrating why he has simply been the "perfect signing" for Arteta and co, according to Notts County's Jodi Jones.

How did Trossard play against Everton?

The former Brighton and Hove Albion man has made a swift impression since his £27m capture just a few weeks ago, with the Belgian dynamo already proving a useful asset for the league leaders, having shown his versatility to be able to feature all across the forward line.

Having again started in a centre-forward berth for the visit of Everton - as he did against Leicester City at the weekend - the 5 foot 7 machine more than justified his selection after playing a key role in the final third, notably teeing up Martin Odegaard to make it 3-0 with a clever pullback from the left flank.

As football-london's Kaya Kaynak noted, the experienced ace 'caused all manner of problems with his close control and sharp movement' as he enjoyed 'another really good display', with any early doubts over his acquisition having been rather rapidly quashed.

That standout performance - which also saw the former Genk marksman register 19 passes and win four ground duels - saw Trossard receive a solid 7.2 match rating as a result, with the 24-cap menace having proven his 'perfect' influence before being withdrawn in the closing stages.

While the impending return of Gabriel Jesus will come as a real boost to the Gunners for the run-in, it does appear that the former Seagulls star will not relinquish his starting berth so easily.
