Dean Windass reckons that Arsenal must improve defensively next season and believes that Ben White should be their number one target.

Despite a dreadful start from Mikel Arteta's team, they ended up with the third best defensive record in the Premier League last season – with only Manchester City and Chelsea conceding fewer goals.

However, the Gunners boss was unable to find a settled centre-back pairing and has already lost the experienced David Luiz, whilst youngster William Saliba is expected to spend another year out on loan.

And therefore, Arteta has already been going out to bolster his defence, with Arsenal already seeing two bids rejected for Brighton's White.

According to Sky Sports, the north London giants are expected to return with another bid for the 23-year-old, who's currently away at the Euros with England having impressed Gareth Southgate following an excellent first season in the top-flight with Brighton.

And whilst the addition of White would certainly strengthen Arsenal, Windass exclusively told Football FanCast that it would also be a great move for himself:

"I think that Ben White would jump at the chance to go to Arsenal. He's got himself into the England squad, he's young and chairman's and the board like young players.

"He would jump at the chance, would they come in for him, I'm not sure. Arsenal have got to improve defensively, and he would be the first one on the shopping list."
