Arsenal can seal dream Arteta signing in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Arsenal could secure a dream signing for manager Mikel Arteta in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

In recent weeks, the Gunners’ activity in the transfer market has died down as they look to focus on outgoings before completing their business before the 11pm deadline on September 1st.

That means the wait for a new central midfielder could rumble on until late in the summer window and the north London giants have been linked to plenty of names, notably Leicester City star Youri Tielemans and Brighton and Hove Albion prodigy Moises Caicedo.

But it’s the Lazio powerhouse that makes the most sense.

Italian outlet Il Messaggero revealed interest in the Serbia international from Arsenal only last month, claiming that they had actually submitted an offer in the region of €55m (£46m).

It’s beleived that £75m would be enough to entice the Biancocelesti into a sale.

Do you want Milinkovic-Savic at Arsenal?

NO!

When technical director Edu Gaspar is done with the club’s outgoings, with players like Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Nicolas Pepe still on the books, he must turn his attention to Milinkovic-Savic as he’d be the perfect signing for Arteta’s engine room.

Once dubbed a “great champion” and “extraordinary” by Parma sporting director Demetrio Albertini, the 27-year-old has proven to be a lethal threat from a deep-lying role as he has provided the Serie A side with an eye-catching 58 goals and 53 assists from nearly 300 appearances.

That includes a return of 11 goals and 12 assists in 47 games last season, more than what any of Arteta’s current options, whether that be in attack or in midfield, could muster up.

Such form and ability has seen his statistical profile be likened to that of Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne, as well as the aforementioned Tielemans.

The Serb ranks inside the top 2% of all midfielders across Europe for touches in the opposition box (4.10 per 90) and non-penalty expected goals (0.21 per 90), as well as the top 4% for assists (0.30 per 90) and the top 10% for shot-creating actions (3.16 per 90), via FBref.

Who was Arsenal's first signing in the 2021 summer transfer window?

Those figures merely highlight just how big of a threat he is in the heart of the pitch as he can clearly get forward to influence the game for his side,  and Arteta’s past work with the Belgian and his admiration for his fellow countryman, it’s clear that Milinkovic-Savic would excel at the Emirates Stadium.

Also lauded as a “complete midfielder” by Sky Sports reporter Anton Toloui, Edu could make a very wise decision in following up the Gunners’ initial interest in the Lazio man with another offer before the end of the window.

Arteta badly needs to provide the likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey with competition, and none will be better than one of Europe’s best central midfield talents.
