Arsenal will have a dilemma on their hands in the summer when Folarin Balogun returns from his loan spell at Reims, journalist Charles Watts has claimed.

What's the word?

The 21-year-old has been in stunning form, scoring 14 league goals in 20 league games, which has made him Ligue 1's current top scorer ahead of the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

With Eddie Nketiah also in great form for Arsenal as he covers for star striker Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Arteta has now been presented with a problem, as he will have three quality forwards in the squad once Balogun returns.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts claimed that Arsenal will have a big decision to make over Balogun - whether they should keep him in the squad, loan him out again, or sell for potentially a large fee.

He said: "Do you integrate him now into the first team at the end of the season? But if you do, how many opportunities is he going to get? Obviously, Jesus is going to be there, Nketiah is proving himself as very much a Premier League striker now, so what happens with Balogun if you bring him back; is he going to be the third choice?

"Is he going to barely play next season? Will that be good for his development? Do you move him on? Do you move him back out on loan again and really see if he can kick on and have another successful loan spell - probably this time in the Premier League rather than send him out abroad?

"I don't know if I'd want them to sell, but that must be a serious consideration, you'd think, given the form he's in and what his value would be.

"If he comes back, if he doesn't have a good loan spell next season, he doesn't really play much if he stays, his value's just going to drop massively, so it's a big decision to make."

Premier League loan?

A loan spell closer to home in the Premier League might be best for the young forward, as they can truly assess how he might perform in this league if he returns to Arsenal for the long term.

Given his stunning form this season, you would imagine there is unlikely to be a shortage of interest, and if he does well, Arsenal could either take him back or sell following a further increase in value.

For the club to have potentially three top-class strikers in Jesus, Nketiah and Balogun at the same time presents a dilemma, but a happy dilemma for Arteta.

Having previously excelled in the Europa League and in the Championship, it is clear that Balogun holds some promise. But whether he can maintain it at the top level is part of the gamble Arsenal will have to take whichever way they decide on the striker's future.

Arsenal decided to cash in Joe Willock after his successful loan spell at Newcastle United, so they have recent previous in terms of willingly letting youngsters go for sizeable fees. However, they also handed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a bumper contract before his Gunners career fizzled out, so whether they have learned their lesson over the Chelsea striker remains to be seen.
