The Athletic’s David Ornstein has dropped an exciting Arsenal transfer claim live on Sky Sports.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been very active in the transfer window thus far, with their lavish spending taking them to the top of the pile in the Premier League in terms of the cost of new signings.
Speaking live on Sky Sports on Friday morning (via @afcstuff), Ornstein said: “They’re probably quite shrewd signings for the immediate, medium and long-term because they continue this recruitment drive of around young players at Arsenal. 21, 22, 23-year-old players.
“Those players should come with more hunger especially with Arsenal outside of Europe, trying to rebuild. Look at the age bracket of the other players they have brought in: Ben White, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga.
“I don’t like the criticism that the Aaron Ramsdale signing has been getting at all. I think he’s a goalkeeper with really high potential. He’s got great experience already.
“Speak to anyone around the set-up (at Sheffield United and England), and they speak incredibly highly of him. Where were Ederson and Alisson and certain other goalkeepers at that same point? I think Arsenal fans need to get behind a player like Ramsdale.”
As Ornstein says, Arsenal’s new signings should have the hunger to come in and change things around at the Emirates given their age profile.
Make no mistake about it, following transfer windows which have seen Arsenal bring in veterans like David Luiz, Willian and Cedric, the fact that the Gunners appear to have a genuine strategy in place over recruiting a younger profile of players bodes well for the future.
Before it seemed almost disjointed and muddled-up, but the north London club appear to be making a real conscious effort in targeting a specific group of players – young, high potential, and with a significant sell-on value if ever it came to it.
Arsenal fans should be buzzing with Ornstein’s verdict on the Gunners’ new signings. The future is beginning to look much brighter than it once was.
