Arsenal make contact over a deal to sign Moussa Diaby

An update has emerged on Arsenal and their attempts to add Moussa Diaby to their squad in the January transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Speaking on Sky Sports’ transfer round-up on Tuesday night, journalist Dharmesh Sheth revealed that the Gunners are eyeing a move to sign the Frenchman.

Would Moussa Diaby be a good signing?

He said (20:08): “Arsenal have made initial contact with Bayer Leverkusen over winger Moussa Diaby.”

The Bundesliga outfit were reportedly quoting a fee of €100m (£88m) to interested clubs for the ex-Paris Saint-Germain attacker last summer and it remains to be seen whether or not they are willing to lower their demands.

Mykhailo Mudryk alternative

Arsenal missed out on the signing of winger Mudryk earlier this month as Premier League rivals Chelsea swooped in to secure a deal for the talented youngster.

Arsenal are top at Christmas but when was the last time they won the league title from this position?

However, the Gunners can now quickly forget about the former Shakhtar Donetsk forward by signing Diaby as the French wizard has the potential to be a brilliant addition to Mikel Arteta’s side.

Chronicle editor Aaron Stokes once hailed the forward’s “electrifying pace” and claimed that the gem is “fearless” on the ball, whilst stating that he would be a terrific signing for Newcastle

The pacey winger has been setting the wings alight for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga in recent seasons and his statistics indicate that the gem could be an exciting player for Arsenal fans to see in action during the second half of the campaign.

Diaby has plundered six goals and three assists, whilst creating 10 ‘big chances’ for his teammates, in 15 top-flight appearances this term, whilst averaging a Sofascore rating of 7.21.

This comes after he provided 13 goals and 12 assists in 32 Bundesliga outings, whilst delivering 15 ‘big chances’, and this shows that the dynamo has proven that he can produce goals and assists on a regular basis in a major European league.

Whereas, Mudryk has not played a single minute of league football outside of Ukraine and has failed to score in eight caps for his country to date.

This indicates that Diaby, who is only one year younger than the Chelsea wizard, would be a safer signing for Arsenal as the gem has showcased his qualities at the top level on a regular basis, whereas Mudryk is yet to do it consistently in a top five European league.

Therefore, signing the Leverkusen magician could be a brilliant move for the Gunners and a dream alternative to the Ukraine international, as his statistics suggest that the gem could add extra firepower to Arteta’s squad.
