Fabrizio Romano has delivered a major transfer update on Arsenal's chase for Norwich City star Emiliano Buendia.

What's the story?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested Mikel Arteta's side are on the look-out for a creative midfielder, with the 24-year-old Argentine rumoured to be one player who they are looking at bringing in this January transfer window.

And now, speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said: "Yes, I think, Buendia is a name for sure. He is appreciated and they're working with their scouts going many miles to scout him to look at him and he's in the list. He's not the only name.

"They are in contact with the agent, but they are still waiting to sell players because if you don’t sell players in this market, it is impossible to sign new ones."

Game-changer for Arteta

Whilst Emile Smith Rowe has burst onto the scene at the Emirates in the last few games in the Premier League - the Gunners have won all three of the matches he has started - there is still absolutely a need for a bona-fide star in that position.

The Arsenal starlet cannot be given the responsibility of having to be this side's lone creator for the rest of the season - it would just be an unfair burden on someone who's only just making his mark on the first-team at the club.

But in Buendia, they could sign someone who is Premier League proven. His total number of chances created last season in the top-flight ranked him fourth in the entire division, and this despite playing for a side who ended up getting relegated.

If Edu can bring Buendia to the club in January, then it could be a real game-changer for Arteta as he looks to mount a real charge for even a top-four place this season.
