Arsenal can repeat Anelka masterclass by signing Warren Zaire-Emery

Arsenal have secured their first signing of the January transfer window by sealing a deal for Leandro Trossard as Mikel Arteta has finally added some attacking depth to his squad.

With just over a week to go until the window closes, the Spaniard will be keen to bring another one or two players to the north London club to give them the best possible chance of winning their first Premier League title since 2004.

According to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Arsenal are eyeing up another teenage starlet as they are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain youngster Warren Zaire-Emery with the Gunners looking to repeat their Nicolas Anelka masterclass from 1997.

Under legendary boss Arsene Wenger, Arsenal signed Anelka from the French giants in February 1997 and he was Wenger’s first official signing for the club, secured for the measly sum of £500k.

He blossomed in London, winning a Premier League and FA Cup double in 1998 before leaving to join Real Madrid in 1999 for £22.3m, a major profit for the club.

Although Zaire-Emery isn’t a striker, luring a young talent from Paris to London and developing them before landing a major profit could be something Arteta is thinking about with this move, and the 16-year-old is certainly showing plenty of promise.

He has already played nine senior matches this season for the Ligue 1 side, with one appearance coming in the Champions League, and getting that amount of games while having competition such as Marco Verratti, Carlos Soler and Renato Sanches fighting for game time is a testament to just how good he is and Arteta could allow him to thrive further, similar to what Wenger did for Anelka.

Who was Arsenal's first signing in the 2021 summer transfer window?

Talent scout Jacek Kulig described him as an “elite talent” and if he continues on this upward trend that he has been on since the start of the campaign, then Arsenal may face some intense competition for his signature.

He might not break into the starting XI right away if he were to join the club, however, he has already proven his ability to work his way into a world-class team and there is no doubt that he could do it again.
