Arsenal could land their own Diogo Jota in Pedro Neto

Arsenal have made a fine start to the new season with two convincing wins from two thus far, although manager Mikel Arteta appears unlikely to rest on his laurels with more incomings potentially in the offing, as the Spaniard looks to increase his squad depth.

Recent speculation has seen the Gunners linked with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers starlet, Pedro Neto, with the 22-year-old said to have been a ‘long-term target’ for the north London outfit.

The Portuguese winger – who can play on either flank or through the middle – had previously been linked with a move to fellow Premier League side Manchester United last year, with the belief then that he could cost in the region of £50m.

The former Braga man – who joined the Midlands side back in 2019 after two years on loan at Lazio – has been heavily impacted by injury of late after missing ten months due to a fractured kneecap, although has gradually got back up to speed after returning in February.

His “natural talent” – as dubbed by former Telmo Sousa – was notably evident in the opening day tussle with Leeds United, as he pulled off a ridiculous piece of skill to evade the opposition defence, with such dynamism and danger likely what has caught the eye of those at the Emirates.

So too has the £16.8m-rated gem’s respectable goal return, with the forward scoring 11 times and providing 12 assists in 99 games in all competitions for his current side, including 19 goal involvements in his top-flight career thus far.

While not prolific, the youngster is a real menacing threat down the flank and offers a rare option as a left-footed player who is typically deployed on the left wing, providing Arteta with a quality alternative to that of Gabriel Martinelli on that side.

The former Manchester City assistant will also be hoping that Neto can mirror the impact of compatriot and former Wolves teammate Diogo Jota at rivals Liverpool, with the latter man having sparkled since his move to Anfield two years ago.

Who was Arsenal's first signing in the 2021 summer transfer window?

The 25-year-old has quickly cemented himself as a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s side, having scored 34 goals and provided nine assists in just 84 games for the Merseysiders thus far, proving himself a hugely valuable asset due to his ability to feature anywhere in attack – much like Neto.

While his £41m capture had appeared something of a surprise at the time, Jota has gone on to prove yet another astute capture for the Reds, with Arsenal no doubt hoping that can see a repeat impact from his international colleague.
