Arsenal could still make a move to sign Moises Caicedo on deadline day...

What's the word?

That's according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has revealed to GIVEMESPORT that the Gunners' hierarchy are putting together plans for a third bid, having had two rejected in recent days, and despite the imminent arrival of Jorginho from Chelsea.

"Arsenal have looked at the Caicedo situation again and have drawn up plans for a third bid which I believe we should still look out for.

"They are being very cautious about how another lower offer might be perceived by Brighton though and my understanding is that they are getting plans in place for other players as part of that.

"Jorginho is a simple one to do. Chelsea have few qualms about him leaving at this stage and do not feel it will be to their detriment."

That's more like it

Edu Gaspar could be about to stun the rest of the Premier League by meeting the Seagulls' mooted £80m asking price for the Ecuador international.

The north London outfit are close to signing the Blues' Champions League-winning vice-captain for as little as £10m upfront, which isn't the worst deal you'll see on deadline day considering his vast experience and leadership.

And with Albert Sambi Lokonga a loan target for fellow top-flight rivals Crystal Palace, where Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is in charge, there could be a need for further midfield reinforcements before the 11pm deadline tonight.

This is probably why the Premier League leaders are still taking a look at Caicedo, as Jones has revealed.

It's going to take a "club-record" fee to land him but manager Mikel Arteta would be getting a real talent for the future in the 21-year-old monster, having him alongside the aforementioned Italian, Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey could see the Gunners truly elevated into a real force across Europe.

Once described as a "crown-jewel" of Ecuadorian football by historian Enrico Castro-Montes, Caicedo has been in electric form since arriving in England, currently ranking as Brighton's third-best performer, whilst his average of 2.9 tackles per outing this campaign sees him rank fifth overall for midfielders, via WhoScored.

FBref also rank him inside the top 5% for headers won and dribblers tackled when compared to other Premier League central midfielders.

With traits similar to both Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante - in the eyes of Castro-Montes - it's no wonder he has thrived in the big time so far, becoming a "revelation" on the south coast, as once lauded by talent scout Jacek Kulig.

WhoScored also list his strongest attributes to be tackling, ball interception and aerial duels, making him live up to his "machine" tag - as Kulig further hailed him.

Meanwhile, he is most comparable to top Gunners transfer target Declan Rice, whilst also having shades of Jorginho and Partey about him, as shown by FBref's statistical profile model, which makes him an dream fit for Arteta.

Whether he's worth an eye-watering £80m remains to be seen but having Caicedo and Jorginho through the door would be one hell of an end to the winter transfer window for Edu and co.
