According to transfer insider Dean Jones, the Gunners could be ready to table a bid for Crystal Palace’s talisman Wilfried Zaha.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said:
“He’s looking in hot form and if an offer doesn’t land in the next week from someone, then I’ll be surprised.
“He’s not the main man Arsenal are thinking about at this stage, as far as I know, Yeremy Pino is more appealing, but this one could become interesting.”
He is reportedly become available for just £25m, given his expiring contract.
The club record signing of Nicolas Pepe, for a mouth-watering fee of £72m will go down as one of the worst pieces of transfer business in Arsenal’s recent history.
However, Unai Emery has since stated that he was a huge advocate for a move for Zaha over Pepe, but was overruled.
Perhaps now with the Arsenal man poised to exit on loan to OGC Nice, they could acquire Palace’s Ivorian superstar in a move that should have probably happened years ago.
Zaha has been a mainstay for the Eagles since his return following a small stint at Manchester United, actually rising to become their second top scorer in the Premier League.
At 29 years old, now would be the perfect time for Arsenal to invest and reap the rewards of a prime Zaha. He could be the missing piece to propelling them towards the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Former teammate Yannick Bolasie even claimed that he had “Neymar-like ability”, likening him to one of the best wingers on the planet.
Pepe has only managed 19 goals in his 80 games for the club, suggesting that he has had plenty of time to acclimate to the Emirates. It just seems not destined to happen for him in the English capital.
It is time for him to move on, and in his place would come the man who could have saved Emery’s job had he been signed all those years ago. He might now come in to elevate Arteta to new levels of hero status, if he can finally perform at a top club.
